The Delightful Classroom offers classes in English writing and composition and classical literature. IEW classes strictly follow the IEW curriculum, and classical composition and literature classes follow the Memoria Press curriculum.
Yes! The teacher will edit student papers upon request. Student papers are edited according to the directions on the checklist for each assignment. Editing follows the IEW guidelines for editors.
Turned-in essays receive positive feedback as well as any necessary corrections that need to be made. Feedback is based on the grade level and skill of the student. Students earn an A for an accomplished paper or an I for an incomplete paper.
Grammar courses are not graded.
Students are allowed two weeks to submit a rough draft and a final draft.
Please allow two business days to receive the edited rough drafts back.
Editing is completed according to the IEW guidelines for editors, which are outlined in the IEW "Four Deadly Errors" podcast. Overcorrecting is avoided. Students receive detailed feedback based on the checklist they are working from. Feedback includes positive notes and lists areas for improvement. This may consist of word choice, grammar, sentence structure, and use of dress-ups and decorations.
Rough drafts and final drafts must be submitted in .docx format. When turned in, rough drafts should be as close as possible to a finished paper. Filled-out checklists must be submitted along with the rough draft.
Literature classes follow a structured student guide, allowing students to discuss the chapters they are reading. Students are encouraged to think deeply about each book's characters and theme. Students are expected to participate and answer in complete sentences. Short essays are assigned on occasion. Students are expected to come to class with the chapters read.
Composition classes allow students to write essays following the steps in the fourteen-stage progymnasmata. Students identify the recognition, reversal, suffering, and narrative components of stories and add vivid figures of description to their compositions.
No! If a class is hosted on Outschool, it will be noted. Classes listed on this site are independent from Outschool.
The Delightful Classroom works with students from third grade and up.
The Delightful Classroom holds online classes independently; however, some classes are available through Outschool.
Yes! As a teacher at Outschool, I am required to be background-checked every year.

Class sizes are intentionally small. Each class has between four and ten students.
Literature classes allow eight to ten students to promote a more robust discussion.
Any device that supports Zoom and Google Classroom works. Ideally, student devices have Zoom's annotate feature.
Yes! All students are required to have their cameras on during class. This practice supports a more secure environment and creates a better classroom atmosphere when we aren't looking at black screens.
No! Parents and family members are welcome to sit next to enrolled students off-camera. Only allowing enrolled students on camera keeps distractions to a minimum.
Yes! Students must purchase their own materials for any class they are enrolled in. The supply list includes required texts and supplements.
The location for in-person classes varies. Group classes must have a minimum of five students.
All classes are listed in CST.
Refunds may be requested until a week before the first day of class.
The $25.00 enrollment fee is non-refundable.
No refunds are issued for students missing a class. A video recording will be available.
Full refunds, including the enrollment fee, are issued if we have to cancel the entire course.
A make-up class will be scheduled if a teacher must cancel a class on a particular day.
Entire courses may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not met.

Students can find recordings in their Google Classroom.
Recordings are deleted after each semester or ninety days.
Accelerated Fix It! Grammar courses are offered for levels one and two. These courses are fast-paced and often suited to older students. Each course completes the entire book in twelve weeks, meeting twice weekly.
Enrollment is closed if you do not see the course you want on the enrollment page.
The Delightful Classroom does not sell or share private information provided by families or students.
Collected information, such as email addresses or phone numbers, is used to communicate and effectively conduct classes.
Students are discouraged from sharing private information such as addresses, email addresses, or gaming handles. Students wishing to communicate outside of class are encouraged to do so through the adults in their household.
Yes! IEW rough and final drafts may be submitted for grading and feedback. All grading is completed according to the accompanying checklist. Students earn an A for an accomplished paper or an I for an incomplete paper.
Detailed feedback will be provided to students. Feedback includes student strengths as well as areas of improvement. At least one hour is spent reviewing and providing individual feedback for essays. Papers are not over-corrected.
Paper grading ranges from $10-$15.
Each course has a $25.00 non-refundable enrollment fee.
